How to Ensure You Always Get the Latest Page
Instructions
for Internet Explorer, Netscape and Opera Browsers
Internet
Explorer
Netscape (early versions)
Netscape (Version 8)
Opera (Version 9)
Given that the PLATO home page is updated several times a day...
A number people are still having a problem getting the latest pages. Instead, they see an older version held in the "cache".
You can
always get the latest by hitting the "refresh" button, but if you're
sick of doing that, here is a better solution for Internet Explorer and Netscape
users. [Sorry, Mozilla Firefox doesn't provide this option.]
INTERNET
EXPLORER Users
Once you are running Internet Explorer:
Click Tools, then Internet Options at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Under Temp Internet Files, click Settings and then click Every visit to page, the OK, OK
This assures that you will (at least, should) always get the latest page when a site is updated.
NETSCAPE
Users
Netscape Vers 6 and older
Once you are running Netscape:
Click "Edit", then "Preferences" at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Now double-click "Advanced" to get a new set of options, and then click "Cache".
Click "Every time I view this page" then click OK.
This assures
that you will (at least, should) always get the latest page when a site is updated.
NETSCAPE
Users
Netscape Vers 8
The option to refresh every time you view a page is not provided.
Instead,
you have the option to "Clear the cache" when you exit from Netscape.
[This could prove to be a mixed blessing, as it will also deleted stored graphics,
movies, etc.]
To "clear the cache upon exit":
Once you are running Netscape:
Click "Tools", then "Options" at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Now click "Privacy" (near the bottom right) to get a new set of options, and then click "Cache"
Now tick the "Clear
cache on browser exit" then click OK.
Click "Tools", then "Preferences"
Click the "Advanced" tab
Click "History"
Under "Check if cached page is updated on the server" select
Check document:Select "Always"
Check images: Select "Always"
then click OK
